So, on top of all the other things on my long list of to-dos, I've decided to start blogging. Mostly because we are starting a new phase of life and I want to record the important, crazy, day-to-day happenings. Our new phase of life? Well, I should have said several new phases...1-we are moving to Ecuador this fall, 2-I will be homeschooling our two boys in Ecuador, 3-we will be running a rafting business in Ecuador. And all the good stuff that goes along with moving a family of 5 across an ocean and into a jungle town. The good news is, Tovi and I both speak Spanish, we have lots of family there and this is our dream!
Yesterday we went to apply for our passports. Tovi can't wait to see his first ever American passport. It is opening up the world to him! Layla's passport photo looks like a mug shot, she was so serious! Javi was grinning from ear to ear :) He's the most excited about the move, after Tovi of course.
We should have our passports in hand in 4 to 6 weeks, which makes our estimated departure date the end of October. I'm slightly disappointed that we won't be here in the States for Thanksgiving, but then I figured I can bring along some canned pumpkin and cranberry sauce and we can make a big FIRST Thanksgiving for Tovi's family in Ecuador. And then they'll see that I really do know how to cook! Haha. His family thinks I cannot cook because I cannot cook Ecuadorian food. I also use an oven a lot in my cooking and baking, and most of his family do not have ovens...so yeah. I apparently cannot cook. Also, every time we've been down there (since I learned how to cook, which was after I had kids and needed to learn...) it's been for vacation, and who wants to cook dinner every night on vacation?? Not me.
So we have a whole list of things to do as the time of departure marches ever closer. I have a whole house to pack up, and homeschool curriculum to pick out and I'm trying to sell some of our furniture and clothes we don't need.
We have an apartment to stay in in Tena, Ecuador. We have a fridge, a stove and a clothes dryer. We made an agreement to use my brother-in-law's washing machine. We'll have to buy beds and some basic furniture to get started. I still have to figure out what I can bring from here that will fit in our suitcases...so much to do...so much to do! (And all I want to do is sew little things for Layla and write a blog!) More updates to come soon.
